International Metrology Systems
launches breakthrough Premier series of
Coordinate Measuring Machines at Mach 2004
All new Carbon Fiber superstructure satisfies the need for speed
Birmingham, England, April 21, 2004 –International Metrology Systems announced today the introduction of its all-new Premier series of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs). The Premier offers machine models from 1 meter through 3 meters in travel with higher speeds and accuracies than any other CMM in its class. Premier is the first CMM to feature carbon fiber on all structural components in the bridge assembly.
"IMS has over 12 years experience in the design and manufacture of carbon fiber components," said Dr. Woosup Koh, President and CEO of IMS, "From high performance aircraft to Formula 1 racing to world class racing yachts, carbon fiber is the material of choice when strength and speed are demanded. We have applied this expertise to the Premier, expanding the concept to include the entire moving structure. Coupled with Virtual DMIS software, Premier offers superior throughput at a dramatically improved price/performance ratio."
"In comparison to aluminum, carbon fiber composites are up to eight times stronger, two and a half times stiffer, yet still nearly two times lighter," adds Ken Dearden, IMS Chief Designer. "Carbon fiber composites have superior fatigue properties to all known metallic structures. All these factors combine to create the ideal metrology platform."
Premier is available in 24 different sizes with two controller options; the Premier Matrix features the IMS 32-bit On Motion controller including its unique Rapid-Scan for touch trigger operation, the Premier Maxxum uses the Renishaw UCC series of controllers and supports continuous analog scanning.
About Virtual DMIS -
Virtual DMIS, with its patented Iconized DMIS, provides a complete CAD-enabled measurement solution including scanning and graphical reporting. Active Matrix™ gives users the ability to utilize CAD data in all of the native formats as well as international standard formats. Modules for direct read/write access to Microsoft Excel™ spreadsheets and SPC charting give Virtual DMIS users a wide range of solutions for publishing data throughout the enterprise.
About International Metrology Systems -
International Metrology Systems was formed in 1992 through the acquisition of Ferranti Metrology, the original inventors and pioneers of CMM technology in 1959. IMS manufactures contact and non-contact measurement systems in a wide variety of configurations from shop floor mobile systems to large gantry style CMMs with a total installed base of over 6000 systems. IMS’ strategic goals include retrofits of existing systems with modern controls and software.
